Fun facts about Disney's Frozen

The latest Frozen film, Frozen Fever, has now hit cinema screens and so to celebrate we have put together a range of facts about the film!

Whether you’re a Frozen fan yourself, or you’ve been unable to escape the renditions of ‘Let it Go’ from your little ones at home, you’re sure to love what we’ve dug up about the most popular Disney film of all time!

Frozen facts:

The story was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Snow Queen.

Disney had ideas for animated versions of The Snow Queen in the 1940s and again in the late 1990s but both times the film never went ahead.

Development for Frozen began in 2008 under the title Anna and the Snow Queen. The new title for the film was announced in 2011.

Elsa was originally thought of as a villain, as she is the character most like the original Snow Queen.

Elsa’s song ‘Let It Go’ won six awards, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song, a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.

You would have thought such a memorable and meaningful tune took a long time to develop, but songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez put ‘Let It Go’ together in just one day.

It’s also the first Disney musical song to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 since ‘Colors of the Wind’ from Pocahontas which reached number four in 1995.

The production budget was $150,000,000.

Figures show that the film made $1,254,512,386 in box office revenue since its release in November 2013.

Frozen was written and co-directed by Jennifer Lee, the first female director of a Walt Disney Animation Studios feature film.

And even more interestingly, Jennifer Lee had no prior experience of working with animation.

She is the first woman to write an entire screenplay for a Disney film since Linda Woolverton wrote Beauty and the Beast in 1991.

In the end credits there is a note from Disney stating: “The views and opinions expressed by Kristoff in the film that all men eat their own boogers are solely his own and do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of The Walt Disney Company or the filmmakers.”

Frozen was translated and dubbed into 41 languages.
